Rigidity effects on love waves in laterally and vertically inhomogeneous transversely isotropic half space under a laterally and vertically inhomogeneous transversely isotropic layer of rigid boundary

Abstract:

The numerical computations on dimensionless phase velocity and non-dimensional group velocity expressions are performed to analyze the effect of varying lateral and vertical inhomogenities (rigidities). Increase in lateral inhomogenity increases the phase velocity and decreases the group velocity. The phase velocity and group velocity decrease with the increase of dimensionless wave number. The same phenomena is observed when the vertical inhomogenity in layer is increased except the group velocity decreases with wave number upto a certain value and then increases. Increase in vertically inhomogenity in half space increases the phase velocity and decreases the group velocity and both the velocities decrease with the increase in wave number. Numerical results of the two particular cases are also discussed.
