Energy loss by swift heavy ions is crucial not only for understanding fundamental ion-matter interaction processes but also for a variety of scientific applications that rely on the use of these ions. The energy loss of swift heavy ions in the energies ranging from 0.1 to 1.0 MeV/n has been calculated for elemental absorbers Al and Ti. These calculations were carried out using a new approach for parameterizing the effective charge, which is a key input in the energy loss calculations. A close agreement between the calculated values and experimental measurements has been observed.
